I am participating in the Slice of Life challenge sponsored by Two Writing Teachers. This year I hope to record memories from being one half of a couple for 50+ years. Last year my husband was in the critical care unit with Covid and died in April.
Dear David,
Do you remember that extremely cold night when we went to the late show at the movie theater? When the movie was over your car wouldn’t start and you couldn’t ask your dad because they were out of town. We walked back to the theater, asked to use their phone and called my dad. Oh, how you fussed about making that call. But Dad came and jump started your car. My Dad never said a cross word about having to drive 25 miles in the cold, early morning. You drove me home and that was the beginning of your close relationship with my Dad.
Many years later you took off a couple days from your job working for your Dad to help my Dad farm. You loved working with the farm crew. And there is another memory to tell.
A lovely memory. What a beautiful way to remember your husband.

Such a beautiful tribute to your husband. Perhaps you have more “Dear David” pieces to write as a way to celebrate your 50 years together and help you live???

I love this little snippet from your courtship. It’s so important to return to memories, both the good and bad. They help shine a light on our future. Thanks for sharing.
