I am participating in the Slice of Life challenge sponsored by Two Writing Teachers. This year I hope to record memories from being one half of a couple for 50+ years. Last year my husband got Covid and was in the critical care unit for 55 days. He died in April.
Dear David,
Today I went to the doctor because I’ve been having some pain in my back and my leg felt tingly and a little numb. I was reminded of another time when my back was in pain.
Do you remember that Friday when you took me to the doctor because I was in severe pain from my back? The doc told us I needed surgery and he could work me in on Monday. I was taken aback and ask for a second opinion. The doc said I couldn’t wait. You calmed me and told me I could do it. On Monday I had the surgery and you took great care of me.
You made me breakfast every morning then I’d walk up and down the driveway. For 6 weeks I had to either lay, walk, or stand briefly. Sitting was only allowed a few minutes a day. My body healed and I went back to cooking for you.
Love you,
Patty Lou
Yikes, back pain…how are you since the doctor’s appointment? I can imagine David cooking for you and taking care of you with his infectious smile.

I got a med pack for inflammation and a script for therapy. I use the heated seats all the time & a heating pad.
