Slice of Life, March 12, 2023

I am participating in the Slice of Life challenge sponsored by Two Writing Teachers. This year I hope to record memories from being one half of a couple for 50+ years. Last year my husband got Covid and was in the critical care unit for 55 days. He died in April.

Dear David,

Do you remember our guitar lessons? We drove an hour to a larger city with two other ladies to take guitar lessons. One evening you missed a lesson. The next week the teacher asked you to stay after class. Another student was curious and waited outside with the rest of us. When you came out, the guy ask, “What’d he say? What did he say?”

Always taking everything to the lighter side, you somberly told the guy. “the teacher told me I would get better use out of my money if I’d sell my guitar and buy a set of hubcaps.“

At your funeral one of the other ladies had to share this story.

Love,

Patty Lou
