Slice of Life, March 18, 2023

I am participating in the Slice of Life challenge sponsored by Two Writing Teachers. This year I hope to record memories from being one half of a couple for 50+ years. Last year my husband got Covid and was in the critical care unit for 55 days. He died in April.

Dear David,

Do you remember tearing apart the 1956 Chevy? It had been used as a race car with a roll bar behind the seat. You wanted to make a gasser out of it. We spent the winter removing the seat, cutting out the carpet and scraping out the years of gunk.

Then you began the restoration process of ordering parts and getting old parts refinished. You were in the middle of putting the car back together. I helped you attached some of the parts on the frame.

Today someone came to buy the car and parts. Two of your buddies helped load the parts and the car body and frame. One less project for me to worry about.

Love you,

Patty Lou

  1. I had to sell my late husband’s project car as well. My dream for his partially built 1951 Jeep Willys is that it will be lovingly cared for like it deserves. And now I add your husband’s Chevy to that dream.
